Get on the Path to ‘Living Well’ This Summer!

The Oswego County Health Department offers two free classes as part of its “Living Well” workshop series this summer.

The first class, “Thriving and Surviving with Cancer: Pathways to Overcome Challenges” runs from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday from June 16 through July 21 at the Fulton Medical Center, 510 S. Fourth St., Fulton.

These sessions teach individuals and caregivers living with or impacted by cancer how to manage the symptoms of the disease and its treatment. Workshop topics include body changes; medication usage; treatment evaluation; managing difficult emotions; making decisions; taking actions; and more. Participants will receive a free copy of “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”

The second class is “Healthy Living: Pathways to Positive Change” and runs from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday from July 9 through Aug. 13. The workshop is hosted virtually via Microsoft Teams.

In these sessions, participants will learn about managing chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, arthritis or asthma. Topics include coping with fatigue, pain and stress; nutrition and healthy eating habits; communicating with family and health care providers; setting realistic goals and tracking progress; exercise for flexibility and endurance; making decisions; solving problems and taking actions to manage daily challenges; and building confidence to make informed health decisions. Participants of this class will also receive a free copy of “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions.”
