Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $66 million in State grants is being awarded to eight communities across New York State to improve drinking water infrastructure by identifying and replacing lead service lines.
The City of Oswego is proud to be among the recipients of this critical funding through the Governor’s Lead Infrastructure Forgiveness and Transformation (LIFT) Grants initiative.
The LIFT Grants program is designed to assist local governments in covering the costs of lead service line replacement projects, reinforcing New York State’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring safe drinking water for all residents.
Oswego’s grant will help offset expenses associated with lead service line replacements that were initially funded through the federal Infrastructure Improvement and Jobs Act (IIJA). While the City was awarded $4,774,962 in interest-free financing in December 2024, the newly announced loan forgiveness grant will eliminate the financing obligation upon successful completion of the project. These funds should allow for approximately 350-500 replaced services in the 2nd ward, which is one of the highest lead areas in the city of Oswego.
“I would like to thank Governor Hochul for this important grant, which ensures that Oswego residents will not bear the full financial burden of these vital water quality projects,” said Mayor Rob Corradino. “This funding allows us to continue modernizing our infrastructure while safeguarding the health and well-being of our community.”
The City of Oswego remains committed to delivering high-quality municipal services and investing in long-term improvements that benefit residents today and for generations to come.
