H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego has come alongside the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and New York Sea Grant to offer a free pass to the museum to each youth pre-registering for the Boater Safety Certification Course to be held on February 17, 2024 at the Central New York Boat Show in Syracuse, NY.
The course will be free of charge from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with instructors from USCGA Flotilla 21 and New York Sea Grant. Each youth pre-registering for the course will also receive three free admission passes to the boat show. Pre-registration with New York Sea Grant at 315-312-3042 is required for the course seating and to receive the museum and boat show passes.
Brianna's Law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1978, complete a New York State-approved, 8-hour boating safety course with proctored exam, such as the one on February 17th, to legally operate a motorized boat or personal watercraft on New York waters in 2024. All boaters, regardless of age, are required to have completed the boater safety certification course by 2025.
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum is located in Oswego, New York, along the Lake Ontario waterfront at 1 West First Street . The Museum features a collection of more than 4,000 artifacts; images; models of military, commercial and recreational vessels; artwork; and archival resources. It is also home to the 1850s topsail schooner Ontario and the U.S. Army's World War II LT-5 tugboat Major Elisha K. Henson used in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
