Harold “Archie” Nelson, 73, of Oswego, NY passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Leonard and Rose (Reitz) Nelson.

Archie served honorably in the United States Army and graduated with an Associates Degree from Alfred State. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Oswego Elks Club, Oswego Lions Club, and the Oswego Country Club.

He worked for Ally & Cory as a sale representative in Syracuse and then started his own business, Nelson Industrial Supply in 1981, which his wife continues to operate. He retired from the City of Oswego as Purchasing Agent in 2001.  After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved wintering in Florida, and he enjoyed attending car shows, especially his annual trip to Carlisle. Archie loved golfing and also traveling, especially to Alaska, St. Maarten, Las Vegas, and Punta Cana. He also enjoyed his frequent visits to the casino.  

Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Joanna ( Allen) Nelson; son, Christopher (Allison) Nelson; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) James and grandchildren, Erica James, Meredith James, Lucas Nelson, Mollie James and Lucy Nelson.

He will be missed by his siblings, Bill (Sue) Nelson and Deborah Barbeau and in-laws:  Laura & Tom Donovan, Marjory & George Perez, Dan & Joan Allen & Mary Allen. He also is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  

He was predeceased by two brother in laws: David Allen and Bill Barbeau.

Calling hours will be Monday, February 25, 2019 from 2-5pm with a service to follow at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.

The family would like to thank the Oswego Fire Department, Menter Ambulance and  St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassion and the care given to Archie this last year. In lieu of flowers, to remember Archie in a special way, please make a donation in his name, to a charity of your choice.
