Harold was born June 24, 1926 to Harold and Evelyn (Giddings) Schmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Oswego.
He was a WWII Navy veteran. Harold was a boilermaker at the Cyclotherm Boiler Works in Oswego, and then went on to the Alcan Corp. as a welding fabricator where he worked until his retirement.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anna E. (Swan) Schmidt; his sisiter, Ilene Orr; his brothers, Fredrick, Richard, and Robert Schmidt; and his companion, Alta Bogart.
Harold is survived by five sons, Paul E. Schmidt, Alan C. (Mary Beth) Schmidt, Eric H. (Kelly) Schmidt, John H. Schmidt, and Gary H. (Kate) Schmidt; five grandchildren, Timothy, Jeffrey, and Henry Schmidt, and Brittany and Taylor Rose; and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Schmidt.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 Wednesday, May 25, 2022, with a service to follow at 3:00 at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
Burial will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.
