Write a commentHead Start Pre-K will be holding Community Awareness Day at each of its centers in early March. The program invites prospective parents, families, community members, public leaders, and schools to visit one of the eight centers throughout Oswego County.
"Community Awareness Day is an opportunity for anyone who wants to know more about Head Start Pre-K to tour a center, meet our staff, and learn about a typical day for children and families enrolled in our program," Liz Liberti, Community Awareness Day coordinator, said.
Community Awareness Day will be held from 10-11 a.m. and 5-6 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, at the Fort Ontario Building 31, 45 E. Schuyler St. For more information, call 342-0629.
Head Start is a federally funded pre-k program with the goal of increasing the school readiness of 3- and 4-year-old children. The program is provided at no cost to families who meet set income guidelines. Classrooms offer a variety of learning materials and developmentally appropriate opportunities. Classes have a maximum of 17 children with each class having a teacher, teaching assistant, and classroom aide. Additionally, nutritious meals and snacks, family involvement, and vision and hearing screenings are a part of Head Start Pre-K.
For families interested, applications for September 2013 enrollment will be taken during Community Awareness Day. Applications are also accepted year round as the program maintains a waiting list for each center. For more information please call 598-4711.
