The Oswego County Health Department reported today that a bat found in a town of Mexico home has tested positive for rabies. As a result, the health department is investigating family members to determine if there have been any exposures to the bat. Also, three house cats must be placed in six-month quarantine as a result of their exposures.
The Oswego County Health Department today issued a warning that two adults and a pet dog were recently attacked by a rabid cat on DeMass Road near the Durham Bus Garage in Minetto.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today that a skunk in the city of Fulton has tested positive for rabies. The skunk potentially exposed a person and two dogs to the rabies virus. The incident is still under investigation by the health department.
The Oswego County Health Department today reported two new cases of rabies in Oswego County. A raccoon in the City of Oswego and a skunk in the Town of Schroeppel have tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was located on East Fourth Street in Oswego, in the neighborhood of Fort Ontario State Historic Site. The skunk was found near county Route 54 in Schroeppel.
The Oswego County Health Department is advising residents that the rabies virus is still active in Oswego County. Rabid bats were found over the weekend of Nov. 5 and 6 in the cities of Oswego and Fulton.
Two people are being treated for exposure to the rabies virus after separate encounters with gray foxes in Oswego County this week.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today that a raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the city of Oswego. This is the third case of rabies confirmed in Oswego County since late December.

More than half of those cases were reported in children 18 years of age or younger. Last week, the number of flu cases reported doubled compared to the number of cases reported the previous week.
The Oswego County Health Department is seeing an increase in reports of bats found in homes over the past few weeks. Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang said it’s not unusual for people to find bats in their homes during the winter.
