News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Camp Waves Of Hope Offers Bereavement Camp For Kids: In Need Of Teen Volunteers

Camp Waves of Hope, a summer camp for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one, is an overnight camp Aug. 17- 20 at Camp Hollis, said Elena Twiss, executive director, Friends of Hospice In Oswego County (FOHOC).

"We offer a day camp option for ages 5-7 on Sunday August 17th, overnight camp for big buddies (teens) from Sunday through Wednesday and an overnight option for campers age 8-12 from Monday through Wednesday," Twiss said.

The Friends of Hospice in Oswego County host this unique camp experience with support from the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, NYS Office of child and family services and the Shineman Foundation.  "Now in its 26th year, Camp Waves allows children to enjoy fun summer camp activities, mixed with therapeutic healing circle interventions led by certified mental health counselors,” Twiss said. “This three-day camp allows children to make connections with peers, learn coping skills, and how to process complex emotions that accompany grief, all while taking part in fun events and activities.”

Applications are now being accepted for mini buddies (age 5-7), campers (age 8-12) and big buddies (ages 13-18). Big buddy volunteers will receive 72 hours of community service as well. This program is open to any child who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Applications and more information can be found on the Friends of Oswego County Hospice website:  https://friendsofhospice.org/events.

Friends of Oswego County Hospice provides financial and non-medical assistance, as well as bereavement services, to help enhance the time Oswego County patients and their families have together, and to support them following their loss.
