James A. Breitbeck, 56, son of Helen M. Breitbeck and the late Charles F. Breitbeck, died after a brief illness at his home in Watertown, NY, on May 17, 2016.

He was a graduate of Bishop Cunningham High School in Oswego and Mohawk Valley Community College where he majored in criminal justice.

While a member of Oswego Boy Scout Troop 870, Breitbeck earned the Eagle Rank. Also, he was well known at Camp Twelve Pines as a long distance swimmer.

Breitbeck was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, competing several times in triathlon events. His hobby of hiking around Civil War battlefields was reflected in his large library of history books and prints devoted to that war.

For thirty-three years James Breitbeck worked as a NYS corrections officer in the Dry Hill Correctional Facility in Watertown.

Survivors, besides his mother, include his two brothers, William Breitbeck of Oswego, and Daniel (Bridget) Breitbeck of Cicero; an aunt, Jeanne Moore Cordts of Frostburg, MD; two uncles, Dr. Roger D. Moore of Clinton and Walter S. Moore of Cazenovia; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins including Maureen and Sharon Stedman of Redfield.

Calling hours will be Sunday, May 22nd, from 2-4pm at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.

Funeral services will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Oswego on Monday, May 23rd, at 10:30am, followed by burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
