Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane, Ozzy Osborne, and Gladys Knight and the Pips are just a few of the groups Oswego native Joe Spereno worked with over his distinguished career.
Spereno was music, for roughly thirty years. Spereno was the first inductee into the reestablished 'Oswego Musician's Hall of Fame'.
In his memory, his family created a scholarship for students seeking to pursue music for their education. 2015 was the first year that it was awarded to a local student; in the amount of $500. In the future, the family is looking to increase the amount of the scholarship to $1000.
On Sunday August 18th, there was a fundraiser held at Lighthouse Lanes for the scholarship and the Oswego Music Hall of Fame ceremony. Chicken dinners with pulled pork, beans and potatoes were sold as a way of meeting the goals of the scholarship funding. Performing at the dinner were three bands and five inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Inductees this year are: Elmer Hadlow, Sam Domicolo, Edward Lisk, Eddie Goodness, Nick Sterio, Jim Yeager and the Rockin' Hi Lows band. There will be a display of the new inductees at Bistro 197.
The fundraiser is planned to take place annually on the 2nd Sunday of August 2017.
