With heavy and broken hearts we share the passing of Joseph J. Powers, age 24, of Oswego, NY.

Joseph passed away in his home on April 18, 2026, due to complications with his type 1 diabetes. Joseph was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, dog dad, and friend.

Joseph was born February 21, 2002, in Oswego, NY to John and Susan (LaPage) Powers. He attended Oswego High School, graduating in 2020. Joseph loved spending time with his dogs Rico and Bentley, playing poker with his buddies and hanging out with his friends, and gaming. His sarcastic personality and sense of humor endeared him to all who had the luck of being allowed into his circle. He was a loyal friend and made so many great memories with his buddies. He was loved so fiercely by his siblings and loved his mom more than anyone, leaning on her through the toughest of times. Joseph’s death has left a hole in so many hearts, and the lives of his family will be forever altered.


Joseph is survived by his parents John and Susan Powers, his grandmother Sharon Powers, sister Ashley (Randall) Lawton Converse, brother Joshua (Tonya) Lawton, and younger sister Emily (Tory) Powers; his nieces and nephews Sawyer, Deacon, Kobe, Jaydyn, Akeylla, Amya, and Steven. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 


Calling hours for Joseph will be held Saturday April 25, 2026, from 12-3pm at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home with a short funeral service immediately following at 3:00. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7pm, following the funeral service, at GS Steamers Restaurant, located at 70 E 1st St, Oswego, NY.

Graveside committal services will be held at 11:00am Monday, April 27th, in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the City of Oswego Animal Shelter, 621 East Seneca Street, Oswego, NY 13126. The donations can be financial, or in the form of necessary goods, such as pillows and blankets.
