We are saddened to announce that our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, Joseph T. Kelly, passed away peacefully on March 9th with his wife of 72 years, Agatha (De Belles) Kelly by his side.
He was an amazing 97 years of age.
Joseph was the son of Joseph G. and Anna Ruth (Carey) Kelly of Oak Hill in Oswego. In addition to his wife, Agatha, he is survived by four children, Theresa (Tess) Kelly of Novi, Michigan, Paula (Mike) Tighe, of Pulaski, New York, Carla (Peter) Bowers of Napa, California, and Joseph (Rusty) Kelly (JP Stephenson) of Emeryville, California, grandchildren Scott and Jennifer, and great-grandchild, Tai. Also surviving are siblings, Thomas Kelly, Margaret (Daniel) Chetney, and Mary Ellen (Edward) Wallace of Clayton, N.Y. He was predeceased by his beloved eldest son, Timothy J. Kelly, and sister Joan (Floyd) Kunzwiler.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II, stationed in the Marshall Islands, and a graduate of Rider University, N.J. in 1950 with an accounting degree. Joseph spent the early years of his career at Cyclotherm where he met his wife Agatha, who was employed as a secretary. He later was an accountant for the County of Oswego before moving to a position as accountant for the City of Oswego and retiring in 1992. He and Agatha spent over 30 years enjoying the snowbird lifestyle, wintering in St. Petersburg Florida, and summering at their home in Oswego.
He was a dedicated Catholic and member of St. Paul’s church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Joseph was known for being a very solid, kind, giving person known for his sense of humor, infectious “giggle”, love of history, golfing, swimming, and his family. He will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be from 2:00 to 5:00 Monday March 18th, at Dain Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego, N.Y.
Funeral services will be Tuesday March 19th, at noon in Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Oswego (St. Paul’s Church).
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery
