When June arrives, so do the strawberries. Find a strawberry festival and enjoy the best that CNY summer has to offer.
The month of June is called Awʌ́hihte̲ʼ in the Oneida language, which means strawberries. As the first fruit of the season, they lead the way into summer as symbols of renewal, health, and gratitude.
The very first of the strawberry festivals is being held today and tomorrow at Bowens Corners UMC in Granby. Hit up their festival for breakfast or lunch, then stay to browse the church rummage sale. On Sunday, June 15, Lysander's Beaver Lake will hold their strawberry shortcake social.
Then, next weekend, Scriba Historical Society is holding an old-fashioned strawberry social at the Scriba Municipal. This event is running rain or shine. Given how soggy of a start this season has had, we’re happy to hear these plans aren’t weather dependent.
If that’s not enough berries for you, then head over to Curtis Manor on Sunday the 22nd for their strawberry festival. They’ll have live music, a bounce house for the kids, crafters, and a chicken BBQ—along with plenty of berries.
Then, on the 27th of June, St. Stephen’s Church in Phoenix will be holding their 24th annual strawberry festival.
And, if you prefer to prepare your farm-fresh strawberries at home, then head on over to the Oswego or Fulton Farmers Markets to grab yours! Vendors like Godfrey’s Last Stand and Ingersoll Farms have worked all spring to bring you farm-fresh berries. Grab yours and then head to a festival to get fresh ideas on how to enjoy!
