Kenneth D Peterson, a retired Air Force veteran, a gifted sculptor and potter of native southwest art, and a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at age 91 on Saturday November 22nd as a resident of St. Lukes in Oswego NY.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Margaret, after over 70 years of happy marriage.
Born in Buffalo NY in 1934, Ken was the son of the late Genevieve and William Peterson of Buffalo NY, the youngest of five children. He served 20 years in the Air Force, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant, and served another 12 years in Civil Service, retiring in 1986. During his years in the military and government service, Ken traveled with his wife and family, living in many places over the years, including New York, California, Florida, the Philippines, Kansas, Massachusetts, Colorado, and North Carolina, among others, and in their retirement, they spent much of their time traveling through Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico, enjoying nature and historic sites. Kenneth shared a passion for arts and crafts with his wife Margaret, creating beautiful sculptures, pottery, petroglyphs, and woven baskets, honoring the art and culture of native Americans and winning some awards for his work. Together, they offered his native American-inspired art, and his wife’s American folk art, in consignment stores in Colorado, Wyoming and North Carolina. Many examples of his native American art are held by his children in his memory.
He is survived by his three children, Marc A (Ann) Peterson of Oswego NY, Kristin L (Tayloe) Peterson of Aurora NC, and Jeffrey D (Greice) Peterson of Shrewsbury MA, and his four cherished grandchildren, Justin Peterson (& Hannah), Liam Peterson, Julia Peterson and Logan Peterson. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by his two sisters, Lois Peterson and Joan Phillips, and his two brothers, William Peterson and Alan Peterson.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private ceremony with his immediate family. Arrangements are in the care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
