Former Oswego County Legislator Lee Walker Jr. has announced his candidacy for 5th Ward Alderman today.
The former Legislator stated that he got into politics because of his Step-Father Patrick "Paco" Malone.
"My Step-Father Patrick 'Paco' Malone was 5th Ward Legislator from 1986 to 1992 until his untimely death from battling leukemia. I decided to run for his seat." Walker finished out his Step-Father's term and held the 5th Ward seat from 1993-1995. During this time: "We voted on reducing the Legislator seats from 36 to 25, which I supported in order to save the taxpayers money." Walker would return to office as Legislator in 2008-2009 for the 5th and 7th Ward (15th District).
Walker stated he is running because "I enjoy serving the community. This is where I live and where my children live. Walker is an Oswego native and Walker's family is the sixth generation to live in the very homestead that he grew up in. Walker said: "My children are the sixth generation to grow up in my homestead. My homestead was purchased in 1897."
Among having had three terms as Oswego County Legislator he was part of the Oswego County Traffic Board and The Salvation Army Advisory Board. In May 2014, Lee Walker Jr. was elected to a five year term on the Library Board. "I'm very proud to have served in office as County Legislator and I will look forward to meeting with local constituents of the 5th Ward and listen to their concerns about our community."
