114 Reserve Café delivered an award to up-and-coming local playwright Shy Sims last Saturday, October 4th, as part of their Late Night Latte series.
The event was an evening of theater, live music, and caffeinated beverages presented before a capacity crowd, with this particular edition having a Halloween theme.
Shy was presented with the 114 Reserve 10-Page Play Meritorious Achievement Award for her short horror comedy "Average Tuesday." The piece follows two mortuary workers whose "routine" day takes a shocking turn when their latest patient isn't quite dead, and was considered a successful debut presentation.
"It was an amazing experience with so many good people." says writer and director Shy, "I can't believe something I wrote and directed got so much love and an award. A big thank you to my cast as well. Without you I'd be nothing!"
The sold out night, produced by "espresso impresario" Brad Gibson, also featured the music of Syracuse surf rock trio The Underwater Bosses, original scary stories as told by Eugene Ossa, a radio play written by Rachel Cullen and Adam Sweeney, and music from the CNY Art Center's upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show featuring Dan Williams and Gina Mazzoli (who also served as the evening's hostess). Tickets for Rocky Horror are available at www.cnyartscenter.com
Late Night Latte showed off Fulton's creative scene with an eager audience ready to celebrate local talent, dark humor, and a perfectly timed oat milk cappuccino.
