Look for Updates to the ‘Ride Oswego County’ App

The Oswego County Department of Mobility Management’s public transportation app, “Ride Oswego County,” has been up and running since the fall and now updates are on the way!

“We’ve had great success with the ‘Ride Oswego County’ app since its launch in September, but we’re excited to announce that changes are now coming to the app that will make finding transportation even easier and more convenient,” said Oswego County Mobility Management Director Heather Snow.

The updates are planned to take effect by Saturday, Jan. 24. Changes include trip requests for the ACCESS Oswego County Program to help avoid duplicate services and ensure that riders are using the correct service for their trip.

“With the update, riders requesting trips that are already accessible by a Centro bus route will no longer be able to reserve an ACCESS bus through the app. Instead, the app will display the appropriate Centro route option,” she said.

“This update will help ensure that riders are guided to the best service for their area and that ACCESS vehicles are available where they’re truly needed,” Snow explained. “The ACCESS service exists to fill transportation gaps, especially for rural residents, not as a primary ride source.”

ACCESS is a free curb-to-curb transportation service available to residents that live outside of existing Oswego County Public Transit (OPT) and Centro bus routes. The service runs seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., ensuring that people can get where they need to go within the county. Trips must be scheduled at least two business days in advance. Dispatch operators will still be able to manually enter ACCESS trips when needed.

Another update is the extension of winter buffers to take into account slower travel speeds and winter road conditions. This will help provide riders with more realistic scheduling and drivers will be less rushed, provide safer driving, and have better on-time performance during winter conditions.

The final end-of-day pickup window will also be adjusted to 5 p.m. to allow Oswego County Mobility Management to stay within contracted service hours and avoid late runs.

The “Ride Oswego County” app helps riders find the best travel options, track the location of their bus in real time, receive important notifications about their route, and more.

Download the app now by searching “Ride Oswego County” on the app store of your mobile device or go to the Apple App Store or Google Play.
