Lyle L. Rhinehart of Scriba, New York, passed away on August 15, 2015 with his wife and children by his side after a short illness.

Lyle L. Rhinehart was born September 28, 1939. Lyle was an avid outdoorsman, and spent many years sharing outings, knowledge and his skills with his friends and family, as well as his children and grandchildren. Lyle grew up in Scriba, N.Y. played fast pitch softball as a younger man, loved birdwatching in his backyard, and gardening. A die hard Yankees fan for life, he could build or fix just about anything he set his mind to. Lyle’s immediate and extended family were the most important elements in his life.

Lyle graduated from Mexico High School, and was employed by the Town of Scriba Highway Department most of his adult life, and retired from there as Superintendent in 1998. He remained active in his hometown and county as a Republican committee member and a life member of the Scriba Historical Society. He was also a member of The Oswego County Superintendent’s Association, The Oswego County Agricultural Society, and a lifelong member of the NRA.

Lyle loved taking trips and leaf peeping with his wife of 54 years, Rosalind (Rose) Albright. Lyle will be greatly missed by his three children; Kelly (Steve) Harris, Frederick (Patti Loughrey), and Tracy (Scott) Samson, all of Scriba, New York.

One of Lyle’s greatest joys and source of pride was his five grandchildren. Watching them grow, sharing stories and knowledge with them and watching each of them involved in their various activities provided him with many years of happiness. Anthony Samson, Matthew Samson, Jacob Rhinehart, Megan Rhinehart, and Nathaniel Wagner will miss their grandfather immensely, as will all those who knew him.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Frances (Baker) and Gerald Rhinehart, He is survived by his two siblings, Ralph Rhinehart of Scriba, New York, and Barbara (Cal) Headrick, of Augusta, Georgia. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 2-5 pm Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Nelson Funeral Home, West 1st Street, Oswego, NY. Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church on the corner of county route 4 and county route 176 at 10 a.m.
