The Mexico High School Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) celebrated the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps with its traditional ceremony and birthday ball on Thursday.

Cadets gathered at the Mexico High School gymnasium to honor the proud history and traditions of the Marine Corps, participating in the ceremonial cake cutting and other time-honored observances.

“Each year, this ceremony gives our cadets an opportunity to reflect on the values of honor, courage, and commitment that define the Marine Corps,” said First Sergeant LaShaun Benjamin, one of the MACS MCJROTC instructors. “It’s more than just a birthday celebration — it’s a reminder of the legacy they’re upholding and the service they represent.”

The ceremony’s guest of honor was Mexico High School Principal Christopher Soluri, who shared his appreciation for the cadets’ discipline, teamwork and leadership during his remarks.

The Mexico High School Band provided musical support for the event, adding to the sense of pride and celebration.

The United States Marine Corps was officially formed Nov. 10, 1775 at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Following the ceremony, cadets and guests enjoyed a birthday celebration in true Marine Corps fashion, marking the milestone with camaraderie, dancing and pride.
