As a fairly new resident of Oswego County, I’ve been disappointed at how little representation we Democrats have, especially in the County Legislature.
As such, I am urging more citizens to attend the Legislative meeting on September 11 at 7 PM in the Legislative Office Building, 46 E. Bridge Street, and please arrive early.
My first issue with Oswego is the way the immigrant situation has been handled. I am an immigrant of many years, with citizenship, as are most of my generational relatives. They have become professionals in multiple fields and have contributed so much but please do not underestimate the varied roles of so many other immigrants. They perform roles in construction, farming, industry, and meat processing facilities that so many others refuse to do. They are indispensable, hard-working, and a huge majority are honest and trustworthy. Unfortunately, there are some politicians and Americans who paint a very negative and uninformed picture. Immigrants are picked up off the streets, in their homes, and jobs by masked “outlaws” with no recourse or due process. The collusion between the sheriff’s department, ICE and Border Patrol is autocratic rule and we must fight against it.
Secondly, the “Big Beautiful Bill” is a direct assault on middle America. Rising prices, firing of government employees, huge taxes and limits on imports are prohibitive. Restrictions on educational institutions and public schools is an attempt to regulate educational freedom. Now Trump is planning on placing hefty taxes on imported drugs. It gives large tax cuts to large businesses and wealthy Americans while cutting key support for low-income families and green industries. It may help short-term economic growth for some but could increase inequality, raise debt, and weaken healthcare and clean energy in the long run. How aware are Republicans on these detrimental effects?
Please attend the Legislative Sessions and make our voices heard. Silence is complicity.
