Choosing when to take a Disney vacation can be almost as important as the shoes you wear while there.
For some, the decision of when to take a vacation is made for them. Be it work or school schedule, some families do not have a choice of when they take a vacation. But if given the choice, when would you want to visit Disney? The short answer is to rule out any time when school is not in session, Easter break, mid winter breaks, summer, Thanksgiving and Christmas as these are the busiest times at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. If you can go mid-September through the first of February, with the exception of the weeks around Thanksgiving and Christmas, you will be much happier with your Disney vacation. The shorter lines and special incentives that are often offered make it a more budget-friendly and relaxing time to travel.
One of the next big choices in planning a Disney Vacation is whether or not to stay on property. Staying off property can save you money. However, staying on property has its distinct advantages. Extra Magic Hours; every day one park opens early or stays open later than normal, only guests staying on property can take advantage of this quieter park time. Dining plans; your family can save five to 25 percent off your dining bills by taking advantage of the various dining plans offered to resort guests. Transportation; if you are someone who likes to leave the car at home, Disney will do the driving for you with free transportation from the airport to your resort, and from your Walt Disney World resorts to the four theme parks, two water parks and downtown Disney.
Lastly, and possibly most important, what is your budget? What resort do you want or need to accommodate your family? Walt Disney World in Orlando has more than 20 different resorts to choose from that include: Value Resorts, (the most budget friendly rooms); Moderate Resorts, (somewhat larger rooms, typically with more resort amenities); Deluxe Resorts, (some of the largest rooms on property, often with on-site spas and other luxury amenities); and Deluxe Villas, (offer rooms to accommodate four to 12 people, some with all the amenities of home like in-suite kitchens and laundry). The Disney Cruise lines offer rooms for families up to 10 people. Disneyland in Anaheim, California has two on-site resorts to accommodate your family's needs.
