Since 2008, a member of the Marching Buccaneers has been chosen to join the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band and this year is no exception to the prestigious tradition.

Kylie Pelkey, a color guard member, has been selected this year to join the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

According to Marching Buccaneers band director Scott Ciesla, the U.S. Army, in conjunction with the National Association for Music Education, selects a total of 125 members into the marching band, which will then perform at The Army-Navy Bowl Game’s halftime show on Jan. 3.

According to the official www.goarmy.com website, each member is selected not only for their musical skills, but for also for embodying the true Army Strong Soldier though values of loyalty, respect, duty, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

“Oswego is currently the only school in the county to have an All-American selected each year, going back to the start of this program in 2008,” Ciesla said via email.

Due to that remarkable fact, being chosen to join the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band has become a tradition at Oswego High School.

Pelkey will be inducted Oct. 2 at 8:30 p.m. on the Joe Wilber Field in front of family, friends and peers. If the weather does not cooperate, the induction will take place at the Robinson-Faust Theater at the same time.

“We hope that you will join us for this remarkable occasion!” Ciesla said.
