Margaret Ann Peterson, a talented folk-art and still-life oil painter, as well as a loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully at age 89 on August 8th as a resident of St. Lukes in Oswego NY.

She was born in Alden NY in 1935, the daughter of the late Constance and Clifford Sly of Buffalo NY, as the youngest of five children.

Margaret was a wife and home maker, but she also worked in a few jobs in her life, in retail and at a small company, Data Marine. In their life together, she followed her husband Ken through his career in the Air Force, living in many places over the years, including New York, California, Florida, the Philippines, Kansas, Massachusetts, Colorado, Montana and North Carolina. Her greatest joy in her early retirement years with her husband Ken, was traveling through Colorado and New Mexico, exploring nature and Native American culture and art. She was a gifted artist, and devoted decades of her life to creating and selling her folk-art bird-houses, gourds, and Christmas decorations, while delighting in the creation of still life oil paintings for her own enjoyment. Many examples of her artistic work are held by her children in her memory.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Kenneth Peterson, after 70 years of happy marriage. She is also survived by her three children, Marc Peterson (Ann) of Oswego NY, Kristin Peterson (Taylor) of Aurora NC, and Jeffrey Peterson (Greice) of Shrewsbury MA,and her four cherished grandchildren, Justin Peterson (& Hannah), Liam Peterson, Julia Peterson and Logan Peterson. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her sister Marian Robison and brothers, Robert Sly and Gordon Sly. She is survived by her brother Edwin Sly (Irving NY). In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private ceremony with her husband and immediate family. Arrangements are in the care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Margaret was a beautiful and charming and funny woman, who brought warmth and joy into her family's lives. Please celebrate her by enjoying and embracing the life you have with your loved ones, and by doing the things you love to do.
