Mary Bernadette “Nana” Hurley, 96, of Oswego passed peacefully on Saturday.

A life long Oswego resident, she was born to the late James E. and Catherine Matott Smith.

She was predeceased by her brother John Smith and husband of 47 years, Edward Hurley, in 1992.

She was educated in Oswego Schools and attended Oswego High School.

She had been employed for many years at the Odstead Dress Co.

Mrs. Hurley was a longtime Communicant of St. John’s Church and a member of the Legion of Mary Auxiliary. More recently she was a Communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

She was a caring woman with an unimaginably large heart, who loved to give everyone she met hugs. She enjoyed going camping and was out as recently as last summer. She also loved reading books to the pre-schoolers at Trinity Catholic School.

She always looked forward to celebrating new “firsts”, ranging from her first time on a merry-go-round to her first professional hockey game (at age 90).

Mrs. Hurley is survived by her daughter Linda (Jack) Lord of Oswego, grandchildren Kevin, Doug, and Justin(Lindsey) Lord, and great-grandchildren Jared, Aiden, and Colin Lord, along with countless others, as there were many people she considered her family.

Calling hours will be Tuesday October 17, from 4-7PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home. Funeral services Wednesday 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Minetto. Burial will be in Fairdale Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Special Olympics 6315 Fly Rd, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
