Mayor Billy Barlow has announced the 2019 paving project will start tomorrow, Wednesday June 5th in the City of Oswego.
Mayor Barlow also announced the original paving plan has been expanded to include more streets throughout the City, with a focus on the City’s east side. The project will begin at 7:00am Wednesday morning with the selected streets being milled, followed by paving. The construction will start on the City’s west side, beginning on Gregory Street, working east. The City will post no parking signs on the selected roadways to ensure vehicles are not on the street during the project.
“Our partnership with Onondaga County Purchasing saved us a substantial amount of money on our paving project so we are taking the savings and putting it right back into our plan, allowing us to pave more streets,” said Mayor Billy Barlow. “My administration has worked hard since 2016 to maximize our CHIPS funding on actually paving roads as oppose to buying equipment and subsidizing salaries. Our roads and infrastructure desperately need attention and that is why we are expanding our plan," Barlow continued. "Following the completion of this paving plan, we will have paved well over $3 million worth of City streets in four years, a feat I am proud of. In addition to our paving plan, we will be shimming other rough areas and will have our pothole truck and road crews patching potholes when the weather allows," Barlow said.
Original 2019 Paving Plan includes:
- Mitchell Street (St. Paul Street to East 9th Street)
- Church Street (Cherry Street to East 7th Street)
- Hamilton Street (East 7th Street to East 8th Street)
- Burkle Street (Syracuse Avenue to East 8th Street)
- Bunner Street (Syracuse Avenue to East 8th Street)
- East 8th Street (Hamilton Street to Burkle Street)
- East 8th Street (Bridge Street to Utica Street)
- East 9th Street (Oneida Street to Utica Street)
- East 3rd Street (East Oneida Street to East Utica Street)
- Gregory Street (Washington Boulevard to Route 104)
- West Albany Street (West 4th Street to Dead End)
- West 4th Street (Niagara Street to Albany Street)
- West 10th Street (Albany Street to Erie Street)
- Northwest 9th Street "the lane" (SR104 to West Seneca Street)
Additional Streets to be paved include:
- East 6th Street (Utica Street to Church Street)
- East 8th Street (Utica Street to Church Street)
- East 9th Street (SR104 to Cayuga Street)
- East Cayuga Street (East 8th Street to East 9th Street)
- West 8th Street (SR104 to Utica Street)
Barlow says the City has paved approximately $2.5 million worth of City streets since 2016, with this year's plan sending that total to over $3 million. The City paving projects in the last three years have been supplemented by a considerable amount of paving done by New York State in the Oswego area, including State Route 481 and State Route 104 last year.
Riccelli Enterprises is contracted to do the project with the duration of the 2019 paving project expected to be approximately 4 weeks.
