Mayor Billy Barlow delivered the annual State of the City Address this evening, describing government happenings in the city of Oswego and announcing several new projects and initiatives that’ll comprise his administration’s agenda in 2022.
“Our 2022 agenda will be as aggressive and comprehensive as ever. We will build on our progress by continuing to do what works, leveraging investment, concentrating resources to better serve our constituents, and capitalizing on natural assets,” Mayor Barlow said.
The thirty-minute address included more than ten announcements describing upcoming projects and key initiatives the city will tackle in the upcoming year, while briefly highlighting the success of the 2016 Downtown Revitalization Initiative, city government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the upcoming mixed-use housing projects beginning to open on the east and west sides of the city. Two major projects unveiled included a new, 5,000 square foot concrete skatepark that will be constructed along the East Linear Riverwalk in late summer, while the city owned and operated Wright’s Landing Marina will host “Tiki-boat Tours” throughout the summer.

- Another round of BOGO Bucks, “shop small” initiative addressing food delivery charges
- Seven new two- port Electric Car Charging station installed throughout city
- Replace existing playground at Breitbeck Park
- More downtown Block Parties, community celebrations
Mayor Barlow concluded the address saying, “remember exactly where we were six years ago and recognize and appreciate what we’ve done and accomplished together, as a community, since then. There is an undeniable renewed confidence in this community, and we’ve made tremendous progress in recent years. The state of our city is strong and getting stronger every day. We have more going for us now than at any time in recent memory and by working together, we can continue to build on our success and finally realize our full potential.”
2022 is Mayor Barlow’s seventh year in office as Mayor of Oswego, New York.
