Write a commentOswego Mayor Thomas Gillen released a statement Monday urging all citizens to attend the New York State Civilian Preparedness Corps Aware Prepare meeting to be held in Oswego next week.
"Oswego is a great place to live, work and raise a family," Gillen said. "It is the duty of all residents of New York State to know how to adequately prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and natural disasters."
A new initiative by New York State, the Aware Prepare program is an effort to educate and empower citizens in the event of serious emergencies. Each family attending the seminar will receive a free Citizens Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit and have the opportunity to ask questions of New York State emergency response officials.
"We are honored to be selected to host this event," Gillen said. "Nothing is more important to the people of Oswego than the security and safety of our families and friends. The Aware Prepare program is a great opportunity to receive information and resources that can make the difference between safety and catastrophe."
The event is free and open to the public although registration is required. It will be held at SUNY Oswego's Sheldon Hall on Wednesday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. Registration can be filed at the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services website www.dhses.ny.gov.
