Born in Oswego he was the son of Wilbur and Lea (Simpson) Barney.
Michael was a US Navy Veteran. He was employed as an electrician with the Local IBEW 43. Previously, he was employed with Hammermill in Oswego for 26 years until it’s closing.
He was a member of The Leather Stocking Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Michael also loved his time spent at his camp in the Adirondacks.
Micheal is survived by his loving wife, Martha (Wiltsie) Barney; his daughter, Michelle (Jesse) Silva, of Rhode Island; son, William R. Barney, of Syracuse; two brothers, Robert (Lorraine) Barney, of Florida and Neil (Norma) Barney, of Oswego; one sister, Gloria Scaccia, of Oswego and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother William Richards and his sister Norma Rhines.
There will be no calling hours or services per Michael’s wishes.
