Write a commentThe H. Lee White Maritime Museum presents “Tales of the Haunted Harbor” on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 pm; gates open with pre-show activities.
The public is invited to join at the historic Derrick Boat 8 for a night of mysteries, myths and ghost stories.
The tales will feature Jonel Langenfeld, professor of theater and theater in education, storytelling for social justice and director of the expressive arts therapy minor at SUNY Oswego and experienced seasoned professional.
“Jonel recently directed the children’s play 'The Great Rope,' which was a rousing success. Several performers from that event will participate in Tales to help tell these popular stories. The audience will be able to participate in interactive elements at the beginning of the show such as the already popular 'body garden,'" Mercedes Niess, executive director, said.
Audience members are encouraged to bring their camera to take pictures of the “Monster of Lake Ontario” puppet, ghost performers or the amazing Oswego sunset. Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite ghost character.
“This is my fifth year here at the museum and I really look forward to sharing these great stories and even some of my own experiences," Langenfeld said. "It’s such a pleasure that local residents continue to share new or expanded stories with me. I am so honored to keep this long standing tradition going."
“Not surprising, I feel drawn to Oswego’s history and the waterfront. There is always a story that needs to be told,” Langenfeld said. "Dan Williams returns to Tales lending his acting and musical talents to this magical evening performance. Once again the audience will be both entertained and surprised.”
“Jonel has made a point to involve local talent as well as various college students and faculty as performers and technicians. She certainly brings a rich history of performance and storytelling experience to this annual tradition,” Richard Bush, president of the H. Lee White Maritime Museum, said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket and enjoy an evening of mystery and ghost tales. Admission is $5 for adults, and accompanying children 12 and under are free. SUNY and Oswego High School students with ID are $3. A satellite of the Treasure Chestgift shop will be open that evening.
