Nicholas Taormina, 94, of Oswego, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, peacefully with his family by his side, in Houston, Texas, at his son's home.
Mr. Taormina was born in Minetto, a son of the late Phillip and Antoinette (Castiglia) Taormina.
He retired in 1982 from the Carpenter's Local # 747, Oswego, in May 2012 with 50 years of continuous membership; he was awarded a life membership.
Mr. Taormina served in the United States Army Air force during World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Church Oswego and the Oswego Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his children, Nicholas T. (Thelma) Taormina, of Houston, and Donna M. (Roger) Johnson, of Colorado; his brother, Larry Taormina, of Texas; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Roger and Dawn; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Taormina was predeceased by his wife Betty M. Taormina, in 1994; and his siblings, Vincenzo (James) Taormina, infant Larry Taormina, Joseph Taormina, Samuel (Salvatore) Taormina, Tony Taormina, Mary Malambri, Frederick (Alfredo) Taormina, Susan Frani, Anna Demmins, Kathleen Arduini and Anthony Taormina.
Funeral services will be held at 8 a.m., Friday, June 21, from the Sugar and Scanlon Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Oswego.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to be sent to "Houston Hospice," 1905 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77030 on his behalf.
