Students and staff members involved with Oswego High School's recent production of the “Kiss Me, Kate!” recently capitalized on the musical comedy’s Shakespeare connection to raise $500 for the Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County.

Donations were collected at both the Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 performances in the Robinson-Faust Theatre for the Performing Arts at Oswego High School. A total 1,100 patrons were invited to contribute to the cause, in which the Oswego County Opportunities-based program assists local residents with improving their literacy skills. Robert Dumas, the musical’s stage director, commended the greater Oswego community for its generosity. Garrett Heater, the musical’s stage director, echoed that sentiment.

“We are so proud of this exceptional community for donating as much as they did,” he said.

OCO Development Coordinator Bridget Dolbear said the nonprofit can’t thank “the OHS music department enough for designating OCO’s Literacy Volunteers as the recipient of the fundraiser.”
