February is American Heart Month. To help recognize the importance of heart health, the Assembly passed two resolutions this month--one for those who are born with heart defects and one for those who later develop heart disease.

The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, together with the Office of State Assemblyman Will Barclay, today announced that it will host a business and community roundtable meeting. Assemblyman Barclay will join the group for its monthly meeting on March 10. The meeting will be held at the Quality Inn in the Riverside Room and begin promptly at 3 PM.
Providing our youth with the opportunity for a strong education is one of the most important jobs of our government. Unfortunately, the education system has had its fair share of challenges recently both in terms of funding and from policies stemming from federal and state laws.

With the opening of Seussical, Jr on the horizon, the Arts Center in Fulton is shining the spotlight on children’s books this quarter. Local author Justin Johnson, and Kindergarten teacher at Fairgrieve Elementary in Fulton, will be featured alongside Margaret Streitenberger, a local author and publisher who promotes works of local first-time authors and artists. The event will be held Sunday, March 13 from 3-4 pm at CNY Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga Community College Fulton campus.

There are programs locally that help adults prepare to enter or re-enter the workforce. Work Experience Programs (WEP) is one such program that assists people who are on public assistance gain further employment and job skills. It's one of the many programs managed by the local department of social services offices in conjunction with employment and training offices that assists people in gaining valuable job skills, help with job readiness training, placement services, and job searches. The program has had positive results for many individuals, often leading to work-readiness skills needed for employment success.
