The Oswego Branch of the American Association of University Women will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Thursday, September 28.

It was founded by several visionary local women leaders, with Lida Penfield (for whom the SUNY Oswego Library is named) as the first president. Since that time, the Branch has grown in size and influence in the area as members study current issues (international, national, state, and local) and initiate projects to improve both the Oswego community and the role of women.

"The Past, Present and Future of AAUW" will be the topic of the meeting. Roli Wendorf, the New York State President of AAUW from the Westchester County Branch, will discuss the present and the future of the organization while the past will be presented by local members. The focus will be on issues dealt with during the past century, particularly as they relate to women. Are the issues the same or are they different from 100 years ago? The Mission Statement of the national office is "AAUW advances equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research."

The public is cordially invited to attend in order to share this important milestone. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m at GS Steamers (70 East First Street, Oswego, New York) on September 28. Dinner will be ordered from the menu. To make a reservation call 315 342-5417 or email Juanita.tschudy@gmail.com by Monday, September 25.
