Ongoing ‘High Visibility Engagement Campaigns’ –
New York State STOP-DWI’s August “100 Days of Summer” campaign continue to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. Police agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state are providing additional law enforcement patrols Thursday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 10.
“There are still a lot of fun things to do before summer is over,” said Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall. “However, many of these activities and events may involve the use of alcohol, so we urge people who plan to consume alcohol or any other mind-altering substance to have a plan before they start. Designate a sober driver, call a taxi or a rideshare service, or walk – just please don’t drive.”
Hall reminds people that impaired driving is completely preventable; it just takes is a little planning.
“Everyone can help make a difference by having a sober plan,” he said. “People can download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp. This will provide them with a safe ride home.”
“High Visibility Engagement Campaigns” are just one of the many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. These campaigns also target the end of summer and Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the December holiday season, Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, 420 Drug Day, Memorial Day and July 4th.
