The Oswego County Historical Society, in partnership with Oswego Cinema 7, will present a special screening of the classic film "Arsenic and Old Lace" on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Oswego Cinema 7 located at 138 W. Second St. in Oswego.

"When we announced this year's Classic Movie Night selection at the August History on Tap event, we heard excited murmurs erupt around the room," said Mary Kay Stone, past president of the historical society, and one of the volunteer organizers for Classic Movie Night. "Arsenic and Old Lace" is truly a classic: Released on film in 1944, this hilarious screwball black comedy was directed by Frank Capra and stars Cary Grant as Mortimer Brewster who discovers his sweet elderly aunts are hiding a deadly secret in their Brooklyn home. Jacob Maloney, Museum Assistant, added, "The sharp and witty comedy throughout the film makes it a timeless piece for viewers today to still enjoy, especially when Cary Grant's genuine awkwardness to these dark situations is felt through the screen." Carleen Palmitesso has attended nearly all Classic Movie Night screenings and agrees that this season's selection is a particularly exciting choice.

Tickets are $20 and available for purchase at Oswego 7 Cinema on W. Second St., River's End Bookstore at 19 W. Bridge St., or directly from the Historical Society by calling (315) 343-1342. Proceeds also support the continued preservation efforts and programming of the historical society. These efforts include the organization of the Frank Barbeau Collection which includes images of Oswego landmark businesses like Oswego 7, pictured here in the 1960s. Originally the Schiene theatre, Oswego 7 has been serving Oswego since January 1941, the same time the play "Arsenic and Old Lace" debuted on Broadway.
