The Longest Day is all about love. Love for all those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.
On the summer solstice, June 21st, 2019 or anytime during the month of June, people across the world will join the Alzheimer’s Association to do an activity they love- or an activity loved by those affected- to help end Alzheimer’s. Together, we will raise awareness for care and support while advancing research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.
What is planned for this year’s Longest Day event:
- Pre-sale T-shirts available for $15 of which $5 of every shirt sold will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
- Purple carnations on hand again this year for sale for $1 of which all money will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
- 50/50 tickets. The winner will be drawn on June 21st @ Stone Creek Golf Course.
- Local downtown businesses hang up chain links again in their store fronts that are made by local seniors at Adult Day programs and Assisted Living Facilities.
- Cheerleaders on the corners of the walk to hold signs that display the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s.
- Props available to take photos for our event.
- The meeting time for the event is 5pm, with the walk to start at 5:30pm.
- There will be a quick talk about why we are gathering all together for the event and then proceed to walk the “Healthy Mile” (the bridges).
- There will be different organizations/programs going “Casual for a Cause” in the month of June to collect money to be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
- There will be hearts on hand to write who you are walking for that will be displayed on a board in our office for the summer.
- City Hall will again be turned purple that night for awareness of the Longest Day.
This event is hosted by the Oswego County Office for the Aging with many Community Partners.
