The Oswego County Suicide Prevention Coalition, in collaboration with the Oswego County Division of Mental Hygiene and the City of Fulton, are installing suicide prevention and awareness signs on the lower bridge in Fulton and at a nearby bench.
"The City of Fulton wholeheartedly endorses this effort. This administration has been at the forefront of partnering with the Oswego County Suicide Prevention Coalition and the Oswego County Division of Mental Hygiene," said Mayor Jim Rice, City of Fulton.
This effort is part of a broader initiative to promote education, awareness, and support around mental health and suicide prevention. The visible placement of these signs serves as a reminder that help and hope are always available, and that the community stands united in supporting individuals and families affected by suicide.
September is recognized nationally as Suicide Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations about mental health. By bringing prevention messages into public spaces, the Coalition and its partners aim to connect residents with resources and foster a culture of care and understanding.
“Messages of hope can be life-saving. When we bring words of encouragement and reminders of support into our community spaces, we let people know they are not alone. Every sign, every message, is a step toward breaking stigma, building awareness, and offering hope — which is one of the strongest tools we have in preventing suicide,” said Kelly Green, OCSPC Member.
