The Oswego High School Environmental Club won the 25th Anniversary Oswego County Envirothon, held this past May 7th at Selkirk Shores State Park, in Pulaski.

It was the first time in the school's history that Oswego High won the event.

The Oswego County Envirothon is a hands-on environmental education competition in which a team of five students collaborates to compete against other schools in the county. The Oswego County Envirothon is sponsored by the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District. The competition is designed to challenge students' knowledge and understanding in five environmental categories including aquatic ecology, soil and land use, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues. The current issue is different each year and students had to prepare a 10-minute oral presentation on this year's issue – Emerald Ash Borer, as part of the competition.

The winners of the Envirothon, Oswego High School's team of five students, Sean Benjamin, Lainey Celeste, Bri Lane, Ben McCrobie, and Mark Taormina were each awarded $200 in scholarships, medals, a trophy and an engraved plaque, both to be displayed at Oswego High School. The team will go on to compete at the New York State Envirothon on May 27th and 28th held at Hobart, William and Smith College in Geneva.

OHS Environmental Club Co-Advisors Catherine Celeste and Billie Joe Peterson, voiced their pride for the team by extending a big congratulations, and referring to each of them as "amazing, hard-working, and intelligent" students.
