iHeart Oswego is loaning a model of the Oswego Lighthouse to the H. Lee White Marine Museum for a special exhibit.
The exhibit, titled “In Honor of the U.S. Coast Guard and National Lighthouse Day,” features the Oswego Lighthouse model crafted by Bob Schladebeck.
“The U.S. Coast Guard was founded Aug. 4 and National Lighthouse Day is on Aug. 7,” Mercedes Niess, executive director of the H. Lee White Marine Museum said via phone interview. “It’s really to honor those who risked their lives for us and to celebrate National Lighthouse Day.”
The model will be on display at the museum from July 31 to Aug. 3.
The exhibit will also feature guest speakers and refreshments.
“Speakers will talk about their relatives who served at the Oswego Lighthouse or the Coast Guard,” Niess said.
Although the model of the lighthouse is not at the iHeart Oswego office, Schladebeck loaned yet another hand-crafted model to be exhibited at the office in the meantime: the Lunar Module #5 named “Eagle.”
The exhibit, titled “Two Seconds from Forever,” features an intricate detailed lunar module from 1969.
The model took Schladebeck almost four years to complete. The exhibit is open to the public exclusively at iHeart Oswego.
