Write a commentSeveral new faces will appear on stage in the Frances Marion Brown Theater at the Arts Center in Oswego as the Oswego Players, Inc. open their 77th season with Neil Simon's female version of "The Odd Couple." The play is being directed by Troy Pepper.
Stepping out on stage in a Players' production for the first time will be Kim Borden from Fair Haven. She will play Sylvie one of the friends who joins other ladies for games and talk at the apartment of Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Borden, a Spanish teacher in Wolcott performed the same role of Sylvie twenty years ago with a local theater group in Red Creek. She has appeared on stage in "Nunsense," "Faith County," and "Three Murders and It's Only Monday." How did she happen to come to audition for the Players? "My husband saw the audition notice and I thought it's time to give it a shot. It was a spur of the moment thing," she said.
For another cast member, Jasmine Maldonao, appearing on stage is a leap of faith. "I was always afraid on being on stage, but after playing Potter's secretary in "It's A Wonderful Life" I thought now was the time." For her efforts she landed the role of Mickey, another of the gossipy friends. A native of Long Island, a friend brought her to Oswego ten years ago and she has never left. He is employed with "55 Plus Magazine" in Oswego.
Also new to the Oswego Players are Donald DelPriore Jr. and Sarah Roy Navarro. They are part of the cast that also includes Marsha Preston, Julia Preston-Fulton, Stephanie Johnson, and Knate Mackenzie-Roy. Steve Standish is stage manager for the production.
"The Odd Couple" will be performed in the Arts Center at Fort Ontario on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8 pm and Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 pm. Reservations for this hilarious female version by Neil Simon can be made by calling the box office at 343-5138.
