Due to concerns regarding the decorative facade, the main entrance of the Oswego Public Library was temporarily closed today. Oswego Fire Department officials also established a safety zone in front of the building, and closed a portion of East Second Street.
The Oswego Fire Department was notified by officials from the Oswego Public Library this morning, questioning the safety of the decorative facade. Library officials stated that they received a recent report done by a structural engineer, citing issues with non-structural components of the East facing wall. In the interest of public safety, a safety zone was established on East Second Street to avoid anyone from being injured by falling debris.
Oswego Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie stated "We commend the Oswego Public Library's proactive approach to public safety, and while this may be a short term inconvenience, it will ensure the public remains safe in that area."
The Oswego Public Library remains open during their normal hours, and visitors can access the library via East First Street.
