Oswego Rotary recently hosted members of the Oswego Salvation Army, with Cadets Stacy & Shawn McNeil, visiting from Sydney, Ohio, updated members on their summer internship where they have been assisting with Vacation Bible School and the food pantry.
The spouses are currently attending a two year training college within the Corp and will eventually be assigned a permanent location.
Lt. Phil Davies spoke about his passion for the Army and how he comes from a family of Salvation Army officers.
Maj. Purvis, a member of Oswego Rotary, updated members on a new $76,000 grant Oswego Salvation Army has received for the program, Bridging the Gap, for first-time youthful offenders and their families. The program is designed to provide at-risk youth a foundation for reaching their personal potential and for positive interaction with the community-at-large. The program incorporates a life skills curriculum where youths will work on self-assessment of strengths, talents and interests, communication, job-seeking, addiction, relationships, self-esteem and peer pressure, culture and diversity and a variety of other topics.
