Despite horrendous weather conditions, the 35th Oswego High School "Pageant of Champions" went on as scheduled on Saturday evening, Sept. 21.

Mother Nature rained on the parade, but it did not stop 11 New York State Field Band Conference members from performing in a standstill on the floor of the Powers Gymnasium at the Frederick Leighton Elementary School.

Officials waited until the last possible minute before surrendering to the weather. Participating bands earned rankings, but no official scores as only the musical element of the bands' programs was evaluated.

The program, originally scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Wilber Field, was moved back to 6:30 p.m. as the crowd moved to the adjacent indoor facility.

Bands from Westmoreland, Auburn, Phoenix, Jordan-Elbridge, Central Square, Cicero-North Syracuse, East Syracuse-Minoa, Monhanesen, West Genesee, Liverpool along with the host Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers performed.

The highlight of the evening for the Bucs was the final pageant appearance of 35 Marching Buc seniors.

The show went on as once again the Oswego High School Band Parents Association, in conjunction with school district employees, local contributions from individuals, organizations and clubs all came together to bring the 35th "Pageant of Champions" to reality.
