Patricia Anne “Patty” Haessig, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York.

Born on September 14, 1944, in Oswego, NY, Patty was the eldest of eight children of William B. and Grace J. Haessig (Carl).

Patty graduated from Mohonasen High School in 1962, where her father served as the first Superintendent of Schools. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Brockport and completed graduate credit at SUNY Oswego.

Patty began her teaching career in Buffalo, New York, before settling in West Babylon, Long Island, where she spent more than 30 years teaching middle school science in the West Babylon Union Free School District. She retired in July 2000.

In addition to her teaching career, Patty was an active member of the West Babylon Beautification Committee. She was a talented crafter who loved knitting and weaving. Patty also cherished her many trips with her mother, Grace, and her Aunt Barb Carl. Patty was also an expert seamstress who made countless outfits for her sisters’ Barbie dolls and designed matching outfits for her sisters. She joyfully shared her sewing skills, teaching her sisters and friends the craft she loved.

Patty had a lifelong passion for collecting angels, hearts, Elvis memorabilia, and dolls. She had a special gift for bringing fun and creativity into the lives of her younger sisters, often organizing games, crafts, and science experiments for her nieces and nephews.

During her years on Long Island, Patty formed many cherished friendships, including with Chuck and Tracey Germano and their children, Cameron and Maddie, as well as many other dear friends she met through her life there.

Patty loved to travel and often fondly recalled her trip to Greece. After retiring, she returned to her hometown of Oswego, where she found joy in her beloved lakeside home, affectionately named “Closer to Heaven.” There, she was blessed with the local care and support of her brother Brian and sister-in-law Christine. Patty also loved visiting Rudy’s on the lake for a fish fry or a Texas hot cheeseburger.

Patty was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, and her brother, Charles G. Haessig. She is survived by her siblings: Peter W. Haessig (Mary), Brian J. Haessig (Christine), Nancy Del Prado (Thomas), Mary Merone (Stephen), Martha Lashin (Kenneth), and Ellen Brumaghim (Bruce). She also leaves behind 21 nieces and nephews and 23 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will remember her with love and gratitude.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held at the convenience of the family in Rotterdam, New York.
