For more than 30 years, the Phoenix Central School District Dollars for Scholars chapter has been bolstering student educational opportunities and this year is again urging students, families and supporters to get involved before the March 31 deadline.

Dollars for Scholars awards are presented each year to graduating seniors who have displayed exemplary scholastic performance, leadership and activity contributions and scholarships are often available for specific educational and career objectives.

The Phoenix chapter has endowed more than 60 graduating seniors with more than $95,000.

Dollars for Scholars President Wendy Dunnigan says the success she’s seen students have through the program is “a testament to the great young kids we’re raising here.”

The Dollars for Scholars application process, available fully online, also puts students in the running for a variety of national awards through the program, which operates in all 50 states.

In the past seven years, three students from John C. Birdlebough High School have been selected for the national Dollars for Scholars Student Volunteers of the Year.

“It’s something we can be really proud of as a community,” said Dunnigan.

JCB and Dollars for Scholars also partner each year to produce the school’s annual Senior Awards Ceremony, where scholarships from community organizations, businesses and individuals are presented to graduates.
