The Oswego High School cast of the musical comedy Pippin, running Feb. 6 and 7 at the Faust Robinson Auditorium, have been hard at work in rehearsals with Amanda Kurey, their choreographer.

This is Kurey's first musical at OHS and her task is not an easy one. Pippin was first directed and choreographed in 1972 by the renowned dancer Bob Fosse, whose highly stylized and deceptively simple movements have inspired subsequent productions around the world. Kurey has followed this tradition, peppering her original routines with recognizable Fosse movements.

A native of Syracuse, Kurey began dancing at the age of 3 and nurtured her passion through 4 years at SUNY Fredonia. Her passion then became her profession, working at both Syracuse Stage and Studio B Dance Company. Top honors came with a nod from the producers of the popular reality TV program Dance Moms, inviting her to perform an original piece titled "With Every Heartbeat."

Her proficiency in Broadway, Jazz, and Contemporary styles has been put to good use with the OHS cast of Pippin with every student engaged in the challenging routines. "They have put a lot of time and effort into learning a new style of dance," said Kurey. "Their willingness to try new things and take risks has made this experience a really enjoyable one – it's great to see such passion and drive from the students at Oswego High School."

Pippin runs February 6 & 7 at 7:30 PM at the Faust Robinson Auditorium, Oswego High School. Tickets can be purchased by calling 315.341.2270 or by visiting www.ohsmusical.ticketleap.com/pippin.
