Oswego County`s best and brightest journalists, advertising, marketing and public relations professionals were honored recently at the Professional Journalists and Communicators of Oswego County`s annual Golden Quotes Award Banquet. Held January 15 at Vona`s Restaurant in Oswego, the event recognized members for their outstanding work over the past year.
Nearly 40 entries were submitted for the awards and judged by an independent panel of judges. Tiffany Latino, Director of Communications for State Senator John A. DeFrancisco's office served as master of ceremonies for the event and congratulated the winners on their accomplishments. Following is a list of the winners in each category.
Journalism Awards:
♥ Best Article, Business - Lou Sorendo from Oswego County Business Magazine, "Is the Nuke Industry Loosing Steam"
♥ Best Feature – Lou Sorendo from Oswego County Business Magazine, "Oh, Baby" focusing on the retirement of Dr. Joseph Mather.
♥ Best Article, Sports - Zachary Jennings from the Palladium-Times for his sports article titled "Seeing Red", an engaging story about the popular white-out hockey game.
♥ Best Editorial - Ryan Yaeger at The Palladium-Times for his editorial titled "Soft Sentences are Leading to Hard Crimes."
♥ Best Column — Bruce Frasinelli of Oswego County Business Magazine for his column titled "Newspapers: It's all about the money."
Marketing / Public Relations Awards:
♥ Best Print Newsletter – Marion Ciciarelli of Oswego Health, for writing content and Mark Proud of Step One Creative, for design.
♥ Best Brochure – Oswego County Tourism Office and Planning for the Oswego County Fishing and Hunting Guide.
♥ Best Press Release – Marion Ciciarelli at Oswego Health. "Memories of a WWII survivor.
♥ Best Article – John DeRousie of Custom Marketing Solutions for his article titled "Catholic Charities Welcomes Students from new Vision Law and Government".
♥ Best Print Ad – Oswego County Tourism for its ad titled: "Fish stories told here. No Exaggeration."
♥ Best Annual Report – Marion Ciciarelli for writing and mark Proud at Step One Creative for design for Oswego Health's Report to the Community.
♥ Best Photo - Mary Ellen Barbeau from Oswego County Tourism and Public Information, The photo titled "November Winds" that offered great view of the Oswego lighthouse.
♥ Best Logo: Step One Creative for the "City of Oswego."
Broadcast Awards:
♥ Best TV/Video Production - Step One Creative Team and Take 2 Visual Media for the production of Pathfinder Bank ads.
Visual Communication
♥ Best Logo - Step One Creative Team for the Rev and Rock Classic Rock Festival logo.
♥ Best Advertising Campaign – Oswego Health's "I am Oswego Health," campaign completed by the Community Development Department, which includes Lauren Winters, Marion Ciciarelli and Anne Raham, with creative support from Step One Creative.
Electronic Media
♥ Marketing/Public Relations oriented website – Step One Creative and the Broadwell Hospitality Group for "Alex's on the Water."
♥ Electronic newsletter –Based on content, layout and design and the ability to effectively communicate intent to the average community member; award goes to Shane Liebler of the SUNY Oswego Alumni Association for the Lake Effect newsletter.
♥ Targeted e-mail communication—Based on message content, ability to secure a response from audience; award goes to Amber Spain Mosher from the Division of Extended Learning at SUNY Oswego.
♥ Best Blog – Oswego County Tourism Office for "Arts and Nature in Oswego, NY: Bringing Art to Life."
♥ Best of Show (Dan Distler Award) – Oswego Health for its campaign titled: "I am Oswego Health"
