The Oswego County Legislature's Infrastructure, Facilities and Technology Committee recently accepted a bid from Barret Paving Materials, Inc. to recondition taxiways at the Oswego County Airport.
Nearly 3,000 feet of taxiway - 1,200 feet of Taxiway D and 1,500 feet of Taxiway A - will be reconditioned. The project includes a slight narrowing of the taxiways from 40 to 35 feet wide. Taxiway D will get full asphalt replacement, while Taxiway A will get repairs. The project includes pavement markings, taxiway edge lights, associated electrical circuit replacement, guidance signage and turf grading along the taxiway edges.
Oswego County anticipates approval of a grant through the FAA that will cover 90 percent of the project cost. New York State and Oswego County are expected to kick in 5 percent each.
The committee also approved construction of a new hangar for a privately-owned airplane. John Wight, owner of Gypsum Express, anticipates building a new 80-foot-by-80-foot hangar for a privately-owned plane he intends to purchase. Wight would be responsible for the hangar's construction and associated cost. The county will collect rent for the hangar and collect sales tax when Wight purchases the plane.
The county is also aggressively seeking an operator for the restaurant at the airport. The restaurant is seen as a crucial amenity, as people who stop to refuel are also looking for a bite to eat.
