The Port of Oswego Authority reported $5.48 million in revenue for fiscal year 2015-2016 and expect equal success in the coming year. This accounts for an increase in revenue of over $1.4 million in the last two years.
Port officials point to increases in their grain business, imports and exports, as well as efforts to reduce energy costs, as key factors.
The Port has also handled additional aluminum due to the increased demand from Novelis, as a result of their expansion.
The Port continues to sell select properties that can be utilized to create more jobs for the community, including the former Price Chopper in Oswego which will become a small business incubator and the new home of Operation Oswego County and the County of Oswego IDA.
To reduce energy costs, the Port is looking at using solar power, with the potential of developing local microgrids. Through these microgrids, the Port could generate their own power and would result in superior power quality.
The Port also plans to develop ways to increase the utilization of rail lines and trucks.
