While there is a scientific meaning for the phrase, there is a more common reference that is used over and over again when dealing with people’s behavior. It suggests that people with similar interests, or characteristics will naturally group together.
And so, it happened this past Friday when the Oswego County Republican Party held a fundraiser in town. For weeks in advance there were press announcements along with a snazzy graphic offering tickets at $125/person to attend. And for much much more you could have your picture taken with Steve Scalise, Majority Leader in the House of Representatives and/or Claudia Tenney, who secretly rode into town for the affair.
Now the interesting thing about all this is that the venue for this affair was kept a big secret from the general public. Sounds like a “007 clandestine operation” of the old James Bond movies, doesn’t it? Makes ya wonder what the secrecy was all about.
But even more questionable was the optics related to the timing of this event. Holding an expensive political fundraiser, the day before the SNAP program funding was to be terminated by Donald Trump was an extremely poor decision on the part of the Republican committee. This has caused quite a buzz by folks all around the county. Bottom line…those $125 donations would have been better directed to the many food banks in Oswego County to help feed those in need. But, as the old saying goes… ”Water seeks its own level.”
